TACOMA, Wash. -- The Loggers rely on their depth as they sweep Lewis & Clark 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-14).
How it Happened
In a game where nearly the whole roster got reps, the Loggers showed why they are one of the top teams in the Northwest Conference. Their depth across the board proved beneficial, moving the needle in the right direction with a now three-game win streak.Â
Puget Sound got off to a good start, going up 6-4 thanks to a kill by
Erin Fagan. The Pios rolled back, going on a 4-0 run to make it 6-8. Taking a moment to settle in, the Loggers found themselves down 12-15 in the middle of the set. They clicked into gear, though, going on a massive 13-2 run to put the set away.
Mackenzie Leith and
Maddie Badger each got three kills and a block assist during that run, while a
Randi Rush ace sealed the deal.Â
The second set was a similar story to the first. The Loggers found themselves down 4-6 to start, and were down as many as four in the middle of the set. After being down 12-15, they turned on the jets once again. Back-to-back kills by Badger and Fagan tied the ball game, and a 9-2 run gave Puget Sound the final push. A couple of attack errors and two kills by freshman
Ursula Harrington helped the Loggers to a 25-20 second-set win.Â
The third set was all Loggers, as they jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead.
Akira Anderson, who normally plays in the back row, got the start on the outside. She picked up two quick kills, leading the Loggers in that stretch. After the Pios pulled within three, a 10-2 run, thanks to several kills by Anderson and Badger, gave the Loggers an 18-7 lead. The end was in sight, as the Loggers took five out of the last seven points. Badger wrapped it up with two kills to seal the night, capping off a fantastic weekend for the sophomore.Â
Top Performers
For the second straight night, Badger led the team in kills, this time with 15, while hitting .545. Fagan contributed nine kills of her own, also leading the team with 10 digs. Harrington hit .800 with four kills, and Rush finished with 23 assists.Â
Coach's Thoughts
"This game was an opportunity for us to look at some new players in the lineup, and
Meredith Coleman really owned her side of the net blocking at right side," said Logger head coach
Mark Massey. "Frosh Middle
Ursula Harrington had a big impact with an .800 hitting night, and DS
Akira Anderson moved to an outside position and put up strong kills with no errors. We really like the developing depth on this team.
We really had great contributions all the way down our bench. They are a great group who work hard every day on both sides of the net in our gym."
