Loggers Sweep Bearcats in First Road Match of NWC Play

SALEM, Ore. -- Puget Sound stays hot against Willamette, bashing the Bearcats 3-0 in a Friday night matchup.

How it Happened
Erin Fagan and Makela Pick got the log rolling immediately, rattling off back-to-back kills to start the first set. The Loggers never relinquished the lead, taking it all the way to the end of the first set. Willamette put up a solid fight early, though, as they tied it at six and stayed within two into the middle of the set. A 7-0 Logger run put the Bearcats in the backburner, as kills by Mia Fedota, Pick, and a couple of Bearcat attack errors gave Puget Sound a 21-12 lead. A small Bearcat run brought them within seven, but the Loggers put the game away with a final kill by Fagan, winning the set 25-17.

Another impressive run gave the Loggers an early 8-1 lead to start the second set. Maddie Badger and Mackenzie Leith got hot, each logging multiple kills to give Puget Sound a solid lead. The Bearcats started a small comeback, pulling the match back within four, but a 7-0 run pushed the Logger lead to 11. Randi Rush had a couple of service aces, and Leith piled on a couple of kills, but Fagan got the final say, ending the second set the same way she ended the first.

The Bearcats got the third set going, jumping out to a 6-4 lead over Puget Sound. After finding themselves down four points early,  the Loggers went on yet another 8-2 run to jump out in front 14-12. Badger's three kills put them right back in it, as the reigning rookie of the year came in clutch at the right time Willamette pulled back in front 19-18, and the game was tied at 20 apiece deep into the set. A 5-1 run secured the sweep, as Fagan came in clutch yet again with a service ace to end it.

The Loggers take this one 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-21).
