Loggers Stay Hot With 2-0 Win Over Willamette

SALEM, Ore. -- A goal in each half gives Puget Sound a smooth 2-0 win over Willamette.

How it Happened
The first half was almost all Loggers, as they didn't allow a shot on goal until the 45th minute. Olivia Alegria was the first to fire on goal, missing just left in the 10th minute. Anne Linggi had a shot saved in the 21st, and fired another one in the 25th minute. The Logger's defense stayed solid, as they kept pushing the Bearcats' back line.

Sydney Boyd finally broke through in the 39th minute, tapping the ball in to open the scoring. After the Loggers got a free kick in the attacking half, Hayden Goodman fired one from over 30 yards out. She placed it perfectly, as the Bearcats' keeper had to make an impressive save to keep it out of the net. The ball bounced right to the feet of Boyd, who passed it in to make the score 1-0.

Willamette came out firing in the second half, earning back-to-back corners, including two shots in the first six minutes. Gianna Maldonado notched her second save of the match, keeping the sheet clean. After the initial flurry of action, both teams settled back into the match. Puget Sound made a number of substitutions, looking to make some changes and secure a second goal.

The brace came in the 72nd minute, as Leila Hausia Haugen found the back of the net. Boyd played a great ball into a dangerous area, where Ella Oetinger was waiting in the middle of the 18-yard box. A quick flick to Hausia-Haugen opened the door, as the Loggers found themselves up 2-0 with just over fifteen minutes to play.

A couple more shots by the Loggers didn't find the back of the net, as they take home a 2-0 win. After this week's games, the Loggers sit tied for first place with Pacific Lutheran. They've gone undefeated in four conference games, picking up three wins and a draw in a hot start to the season.
