TACOMA, Wash. -- The Loggers conclude their homestand with a 1-2 loss to the California Lutheran Regals.
How it Happened
Following a 1-0 loss to No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer on Friday, the Loggers looked to turn things around today. The game got off to a slow start, as both teams took some time to settle in. The Regals got in on the scoring action first, as Tessa French found the back of the net following a corner kick. The Regals continued the attack, firing off a couple more shots, but couldn't convert thanks to pressure by the Loggers' back line.
The Loggers' best chance of the second half came in the 28th minute, as
Zoe Witter fired a shot on goal, recovering the rebound, and firing again. The Regals' keeper saved both shots, and the Loggers stayed off the scoresheet. A save by Maldonado and a shot on goal by
Anya Dubois capped off the first half action, as the Loggers found themselves down 1-0.
Maldonado continued to impress, as she made four key saves within the first 10 minutes of the second half. Both teams worked the field to try to set up chances, but neither found any luck until the last five minutes of the game. The Regals' Jessica Sprouse found herself in a one-on-one with Maldonado, finding the back of the net and making it 2-0. The Loggers weren't done yet, though, as
Kate Short scored with just 39 seconds remaining in the second half. The final whistle blew, and the Loggers dropped this one, 1-2.
