TACOMA, Wash. - - The Logger men's soccer team dropped a heart-stopping 4-3 game to Whitman on Saturday afternoon in a roller-coaster of emotions and offensive opportunities.
How it Happened
Whitman came out hot in the opening minutes, finding the back of the net just seven minutes in to take the lead. The Loggers were quick to respond ten minutes later off a corner kick. Sebastian Telles delivered into the box, finding the head of Jackson Smith, who powered it home to equalize.
The Blues managed to reclaim the lead shortly after at 2-1, but Puget Sound had a swift response before the halftime whistle. After a Logger was fouled roughly 25 yards out, Owen Foley stepped up to take the free kick, driving a ball that deflected off a Whitman defender for an own goal, sending both teams into the break deadlocked at 2-2.
Just minutes into the second half, Jarren Merced played a ball into Smith across the box, who calmly buried his second goal of the match to give the Loggers their first lead of the day.
The battle raged on until the Blues leveled the score and later found the game-winner with just seven minutes left on the clock to edge back in front 4-3.
Refusing to go down quietly, Puget Sound had a late push in the final moments. The Loggers crowded the box, firing off a dangerous look from Rhys Foote and earning a late corner kick, but time ran out on the comeback bid.
