PARKLAND, Wash. - - The Logger women's soccer team secured a dominant 2-0 win over the Lutes on Wednesday night, maintaining their position at the top of the Northwest Conference standings.
How it Happened
Puget Sound set the tone early when Madi Jarzynka switched the field to find the feet of Zoe Witter. Witter took space and fired from the edge of the 18-yard box into the side netting to make it 1-0 just 5 minutes in.
The Loggers kept up the pressure, rattling off four shots over the next five minutes. That pressure paid off when Leila Hausia-Haugen intercepted a loose ball following a Lute defensive error. Hausia-Haugen took two touches before unleashing a left-footed strike that hit the crossbar and bounced across the line, doubling the lead to 2-0 going into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Loggers maintained momentum in the attacking third. Kaitlyn Osada forced a save from the keeper early in the second half, while looks from Witter and Sydney Boyd kept the Lutes on their heels, reinforcing Puget Sound's conference-leading shot total.
The Logger midfield kept the attack flowing as the half progressed. Though the Lutes fought back with several dangerous set pieces, the Logger backline allowed only three shots all game and requiring goalkeeper Stella Grigoryan to make just one save.
On the day, the Loggers outshot the Lutes 13-3Â overall and held a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal. This win secures Puget Sound with their ninth clean sheet of the season.
