PORTLAND, Ore. - - The Loggers pulled off a dramatic 2-1 win on the road against Lewis & Clark, sealed by a 88th minute game-winner from Kate Short.Â
How it HappenedÂ
Puget Sound set an aggressive tone right from the start. Madi Jarzynka launched Puget Sound's first shot just over a minute into the match, pushing it wide right. Moments later, forward Leila Hausia-Haugen kept the pressure on with a strike over the crossbar.
The early attack paid off in the 6th minute, when Jarzynka found the net to put the Loggers on the board, 1–0.
An early substitution for the hosts just over a minute in brought a new goalkeeper into the net. Puget Sound came out firing with nine shots in the first half.
Hayden Goodman nearly doubled the lead in the 12 minute, hitting the top woodwork, while Short continuously pressed and tested the net throughout the rest of the half.Â
The home side pushed back after halftime and found an equalizer in the 65th minute. Following a cross that was deflected out to the top of the box, the River Otters found the back post to tie the match at 1–1.
With time winding down, the Loggers pressed a relentless late attack. Jarzynka fired another shot in the 83rd, forcing a save from the River Otter keeper. Her shot resulted in a corner.Â
With 2 minutes left to play, Charlotte Willis stepped up to take the kick and delivered to the back post, where Short headed it home to reclaim a 2-1 lead.Â
The Loggers held on through the final minute to secure the conference road victory. Short led all players with 8 total shots and 4 on goal, while Jarzynka recorded 4 shots and 3 on frame.Â
