Strong Defensive Play Gives Loggers 66-53 Win Over Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- The Loggers continue to roll, taking down the Pacific Boxers 66-53 and extending their win streak to five.

How it Happened
The Loggers got off to a quick start, as freshmen Grace Lee and Hailey Quiggle both hit buckets to start the game. Another Lee layup and jumper by Carmen Cruz gave the Loggers eight points in the first three minutes, taking an early 8-4 lead over the Boxers. A Pacific run gave the Boxers back the lead, but an offensive rebound and triple by Natalia Sefair-Lopez put the Loggers on top.

Mele Sake and Savannah Pohl both got in on the action, as six different Loggers scored in the first seven minutes. After a pair of Cruz free throws, the Loggers took a 20-19 lead into the second quarter.

The teams traded buckets to start the second, but a triple by Paige Oh extended Puget Sound's lead. Puget Sound's defense held strong, not allowing a single point in six minutes. Back-to-back buckets by Lee made it 31-26, and a jumper by Oh capped the scoring for the period. The Loggers took a 33-29 lead into the break, placing themselves in a good position to close out the game.

After Pacific tied the game at 33 apiece, four points by Lee and a layup by Claire Thompson put the Logs on top. A tough and-one by Cruz extended the lead to nine, capping off an impressive 9-0 run to put distance between the two squads. A final layup by Grace Lee made it a 52-43 ball game at the end of the third, capping off the Loggers' best quarter of the day.

Pacific brought the game back within three after a Boxers went on a run to start the fourth quarter. Sake then went on an individual 6-0 run, hitting two buckets and two free throws to bring the Loggers' lead back to eight. Five straight Cruz free throws concluded the game's scoring, as Puget Sound didn't allow a single point in the final six minutes of the game.
