Total Team Win Brings Loggers an 84-59 Victory Over Whitman

TACOMA, Wash. -- The Loggers take down the Whitman Blues in a dominant fashion, easing their way to an 84-59 victory.

How it Happened
The game got off to a quick start, as the Loggers scored off a play from the tip. Hugo Rutherfurd tapped the ball forward to Dezman Baker, who found Trevon Hamilton for an easy two points. A Rutherfurd three from the corner made it 5-2 Loggers, making another bucket to add to Puget Sound's lead. The Blues took their first and only lead of the day, but back-to-back threes by Rutherfurd and Aaydan Saucedo made it 15-9 Logs.

Puget Sound continued to play well on both sides of the ball, going on a 7-0 run thanks to a three by Zane Miller, a pair of free throws by Ian Cook, and another layup by Baker. Beckett Turner got in on the action with a layup of his own to make it 31-22, as another Saucedo three kept the Loggers out of reach. A pair of free throws ended the first-half scoring for the Loggers, holding the Blues to 27 points to open the game.

The Blues pulled within eight coming out of halftime, but a 6-0 individual run by Rutherfurd gave the Loggers their largest lead of the game. Another Saucedo three and a layup by Kobe Smith made it 49-32 in favor of the Loggers, sparking an 11-2 run to put the game away with 13 minutes remaining. Cook then hit a bucket and a pair of free throws, extending the Logger lead to 21. The Loggers went on another run, this time scoring nine straight. They totaled a 22-5 run, statistically ending the game.

With a comfortable 28-point lead, the Loggers subbed out their starters and got some of the younger guys some valuable minutes. Cameron Wood hit a pair of tough buckets, Cody Gardanier got to the basket, and Khaled Artharee made four in a row. A final layup by Asher Abeles-Tierney sealed the victory, giving the Loggers an 84-59 nod over the Blues.
