TACOMA, Wash. -- The Loggers take down the Whitman Blues in a dominant fashion, easing their way to an 84-59 victory.
How it Happened
The game got off to a quick start, as the Loggers scored off a play from the tip.
Hugo Rutherfurd tapped the ball forward to
Dezman Baker, who found
Trevon Hamilton for an easy two points. A Rutherfurd three from the corner made it 5-2 Loggers, making another bucket to add to Puget Sound's lead. The Blues took their first and only lead of the day, but back-to-back threes by Rutherfurd and
Aaydan Saucedo made it 15-9 Logs.
Puget Sound continued to play well on both sides of the ball, going on a 7-0 run thanks to a three by
Zane Miller, a pair of free throws by
Ian Cook, and another layup by Baker.
Beckett Turner got in on the action with a layup of his own to make it 31-22, as another Saucedo three kept the Loggers out of reach. A pair of free throws ended the first-half scoring for the Loggers, holding the Blues to 27 points to open the game.
The Blues pulled within eight coming out of halftime, but a 6-0 individual run by Rutherfurd gave the Loggers their largest lead of the game. Another Saucedo three and a layup by
Kobe Smith made it 49-32 in favor of the Loggers, sparking an 11-2 run to put the game away with 13 minutes remaining. Cook then hit a bucket and a pair of free throws, extending the Logger lead to 21. The Loggers went on another run, this time scoring nine straight. They totaled a 22-5 run, statistically ending the game.
With a comfortable 28-point lead, the Loggers subbed out their starters and got some of the younger guys some valuable minutes.
Cameron Wood hit a pair of tough buckets,
Cody Gardanier got to the basket, and
Khaled Artharee made four in a row. A final layup by
Asher Abeles-Tierney sealed the victory, giving the Loggers an 84-59 nod over the Blues.
Top Performers
Rutherfurd had a great night, scoring 16 with 6 rebounds and an assist.
Ian Cook had 11 points and five boards, rounding out the double-digit scorers. All 17 eligible athletes got minutes tonight, marking a total team win.
