Loggers Beat Southwestern 11-9 For First Win of the Ssason

TACOMA, Wash. -- The Loggers secure their first win of the season, taking down the Southwestern University Pirates 11-9.

How it Happened
The Pirates got on the board first, scoring just two minutes into the game. Freshman Goalie Ebeth Kline got a pair of saves to keep the Pirates out of the back of the net, setting up a solid possession for the Loggers. Hailey Woodard took full advantage, wrapping from behind the goal and scoring to tie the game. Cat Schilli and Maggie Ott both continued the good play for the Loggers, each scoring a goal to make it 3-1 after the first period.

Puget Sound wasted no time in the second period, as Ott netted back-to-back goals within the first two minutes of action. The Logger defense then held strong, forcing several turnovers and keeping the Pirates off the score sheet. Pier Pomeroy found her first goal of the season in the second, making it six straight for the Loggers. The Pirates pulled one back, but another Schilli goal at the buzzer made it 7-2 at the half.

The Pirates came out strong in the third, scoring four straight to make it a 7-6 ball game. Schilli found the back of the net shortly after, though, netting her third goal in three quarters. To start the fourth, the Pirates opened the scoring yet again. Schilli found her fourth of the day shortly after, putting the Loggers up two with just under eight minutes to go. Southwestern cut the lead to one with three minutes left, but the Loggers weren't done yet. Willa Twomey scored her first collegiate goal, backing it up with another goal just two minutes later.

The Loggers take this one, 11-9.
