FOREST GROVE, Ore. - - The University of Puget Sound women's lacrosse team battled on the road Thursday evening, falling 12-4 to Pacific.
How It Happened
After Pacific struck first, the Loggers didn't take long to respond. With just under eight minutes left in the first, Piper Lewis stepped up on a free position attempt and buried it to tie things at 1-1, settling Puget Sound into the game early.
Lewis found the back of the net again in the second quarter, converting on another free position attempt to notch her second goal of the day. From there, the Loggers started to find rhythm offensively, highlighted by one of their cleanest sequences of the day. Cat Schilli slipped a perfectly timed pass to Willa Twomey, who finished it off with a smooth underhand shot that gave Puget Sound a spark.
That connection carried into the second half, where the Loggers put together back to back goals in the third quarter. This time it was Twomey setting up Schilli, finding her cutting right through the middle for an easy finish in front. Despite continued pressure and strong individual efforts, Puget Sound was unable to close the gap late in the fourth.Â
On the defensive side, Ebeth Kline put together a strong performance, coming up with 10 saves and continuing to compete against a strong Pacific attack.
What Happens Next
The Loggers will return home to Baker Stadium on Saturday, March 21, hosting Lawrence University at 1 PM.
