TACOMA, Wash. - - The Loggers put together one of its best performances of the season Saturday afternoon, taking down Lawrence University, 18-3, at Baker Stadium.
How It Happened
The Loggers wasted no time taking control in the first quarter. Cat Schilli opened the scoring less than three minutes in, finishing off an assist from Hailey Woodard. Off the draw, Puget Sound quickly regained possession, and Piper Lewis scored to double the lead.
After Lawrence got on the board, the Loggers responded immediately. Lewis found the back of the net again just minutes later, followed closely by another goal from Schilli as Puget Sound continued to push the pace. The run continued when Willa Twomey forced a turnover and picked up the ground ball, leading to a goal from Woodard. In the final minutes of the quarter, Maggie Ott added a man-up goal off an assist from Pier Pomeroy, giving the Loggers a commanding lead after the first.
Puget Sound carried that momentum into the second quarter. Just under a minute in, Schilli completed her hat trick with a man-up goal. A few minutes later, Woodard added another, finishing a pass from Lewis. Twomey followed with back-to-back goals in a two minute span, extending the lead. In the closing minutes of the half, Schilli struck again, sending the Loggers into the break up 11–2.
Out of halftime, Puget Sound continued to capitalize on its opportunities. After Lawrence scored early in the third, Schilli answered less than a minute later on an assist from Pomeroy. Woodard added another goal soon after, and following a green card given to the Vikings, Schilli converted on the man-up play off a pass from Woodard. In the final two minutes of the quarter, Lewis added her third goal of the game to keep the pressure on.
The Loggers remained in control throughout the fourth quarter. Five minutes in, Lewis converted a free position attempt to extend the lead. Schilli added another goal off an assist from Lewis, and Puget Sound closed out the scoring with a goal from Twomey, again assisted by Lewis.
Puget Sound's control extended beyond the scoreboard, as the Logger's out shot Lawrence 26–5 and consistently won draw controls to maintain possessions throughout the game. Defensively, they limited the Vikings to just three goals, with just one in the second half.
Schilli led her team with seven goals, while Lewis finished with four goals and three assists.
