Loggers Show Heart in High-Scoring Finale

TACOMA, Wash. - - Logger softball showed fight on Saturday, bouncing back from a tough opening loss to push Pacific Lutheran to the limit in a high-scoring game two.

Game 1

The Lutes jumped out to an early lead in the 1st inning, while Puget Sound's defense tightened up in the 2nd, aided by a sharp play from Nyomi Estrada at shortstop to catch a runner stealing. The Loggers continued to battle at the plate, forcing PLU pitchers into deep counts. Both Claire Besancon and Kylie Tanimura saw 11+ pitches in their first-inning plate appearances, but the Loggers were unable to find a play to cut the deficit.

Besancon led the way for the offense, with a full count walk in the first inning, later advancing to second on a passed ball and notched a line drive single to left-center in the 3rd. Alyssa Waldo added to the hit column in the 4th inning, sparking a potential rally with a single to left center field. Jazzy Allen followed suit in the 4th, poking a single into left field to put two runners on and give the Loggers their best scoring threat of the game.

The Lutes take game one 10-0.

Game 2

The Lutes jumped out to an early lead, building a 7-1 advantage by the top of the fourth. The Loggers' first run came in the third when Tanimura hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Kaleimaile Garcia.

The momentum shifted dramatically in the bottom of the fifth. Trailing by six, the Loggers exploded for five runs to get back in the game. Estrada sparked the rally after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Besancon. Rylie Madariaga followed with an RBI single, and Peyton Willing provided the big blow, a three-run single to left center that cleared the bases and brought the Loggers within one, making it 7-6.

After the Lutes added an unearned run in the sixth, Tanimura stepped up again. With Besancon on base, Tanimura launched a two run home run over the right field fence, tying the game 8-8 and energizing her dugout. However, the Lutes managed to reclaim the lead with three runs in the top of seventh to secure the win.

The Lutes take game two 11-8.
