Loggers Chop Lutes 14-10 Behind Woodard's Seven Points

TACOMA, Wash. - - Logger lacrosse moves to a 3-1 record on the season after a hard-fought 14-10 victory against Pacific Lutheran on Saturday.

How It Happened

The Lutes jumped out to a 4-0 lead that put the Loggers on their heels early in the first quarter. However, Puget Sound didn't blink. Cat Schilli and Maggie Ott got the offense on the board before Piper Lewis took over the opening frame. Lewis went on a tear, netting three goals in just seven minutes to pull the Loggers back into the fight, eventually heading into the second quarter trailing only 6-5.

The second period was a back-and-forth battle. Lewis picked up right where she left off with her fourth goal of the day, and Hailey Woodard began to find her rhythm, facilitating the offense and finding the back of the net herself. Even with a few yellow cards forcing them to play man-down, the Loggers kept the Lutes within striking distance, heading into the locker room down 9-8 at the half.

Whatever was said in the huddle worked, because Puget Sound came out for the second half and completely slammed the door shut. The Logger defense was the story of the afternoon, holding PLU scoreless for the entire third quarter. While the defense stood tall, Willa Twomey and Schilli provided the spark needed to reclaim the lead.

The fourth quarter was the Woodard show. She scored twice in the final period and notched her fourth assist of the game on a last-second goal by Twomey to put the exclamation point on the win. The Loggers dominated the second half 6-1, proving they can lock in when the pressure is highest.

Woodard finished the day with a massive 7-point performance (3 goals, 4 assists), while Lewis and Schilli were lethal with four goals each. In the midfield, Ott was a force, snagging five draw controls to keep the Loggers in control of the tempo. Between the pipes, Ebeth Kline was a brick wall, racking up 15 saves.

What Happens Next

The Loggers return to Baker Stadium tomorrow, March 8, to host Linfield at 1:00 PM.
