Loggers Fall Just Short in 9-8 Thriller Against Pacific

TACOMA, Wash. - - The Loggers dropped their final game of the three game series with Pacific on Sunday afternoon, falling 9-8 in a back and forth thriller.

How it Happened

Pacific struck first in the first, but Puget Sound answered immediately with a four-run inning. Charlie Deggeller ignited the rally with a double and moved on an error before Cooper Allen drove him home with a single. After Allen stole second and Ryan Spero singled, Allen scored on a wild pitch to take the lead. Isaac Fendel capped the inning with a two RBI double, scoring Armand Lettiere and Spero to put the Loggers up 4-2.

The lead swapped hands again in the third. After Pacific reclaimed the advantage, Brock Makishima walked and Deggeller singled to put two on. Allen then delivered a two-run single, scoring both runners to put Puget Sound back in front. The battle continued in the fourth as Pacific plated three runs, but the Loggers responded with two of their own. Cadence Ueyama lifted a sacrifice fly to score Lettiere and Deggeller followed with an RBI single to bring home Jim O'Brien.

Both pitching staffs locked in for a scoreless middle stretch through the eighth inning. The Loggers threatened in the bottom of the eighth when Spero singled and stole second, but he was left stranded.

Pacific managed a solo home run in the top of the ninth to take a late lead. In the final half-inning, Makishima reached after being hit by a pitch and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, but Pacific recorded the final out to take the 9-8 win.

What Happens Next

The Loggers will look to bounce back as they hit the road next weekend for a three game series at Willamette. Action begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 18, at 12 PM.
