Softball Drops a Pair of Games to No. 8 Linfield

McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- The Loggers drop both games to No. 8 Linfield, keeping within reach in game one before dropping game two 10-0.

How it Happened
Game 1
The Wildcats got on the board first in game one, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Loggers didn't let that get to them, though, as Nyomi Estrada earned a seven-pitch walk to become the Loggers' first baserunner. The Loggers continued to battle at the plate, with Kylie Tanimura battling in a 13-pitch at bat, making the Wildcat pitcher work.

Despite giving up another run in the bottom of the second inning, Estrada, who got the start in the circle, got out of the inning fairly quickly. After the Wildcats put two more in the third to make it 6-0, Macy Maxwell got the first Logger hit of the day in the top of the fourth. She advanced to second on a wild pitch, and with two outs, the Loggers were able to capitalize. After another long at bat, Alyssa Figueroa singled to left field to send Maxwell home, putting a run on the board.

Estrada got out of a jam in the bottom of the fourth inning, handing the Wildcats their first scoreless inning of the day. Linfield scored again in the bottom of the fifth, though, making it 8-1. The Loggers weren't done yet, though, as Claire Besancon and Maxwell both singled to put runners on the corners. Estrada walked to load the bases with one out, and Figueroa got her second RBI of the day thanks to a sacrifice fly. After Tanimura got hit by a pitch to reload the bases, Olivia Boures doubled to right field to send another two Loggers home, pulling the Loggers within four.

The Wildcats put up two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, and despite a Riley Madariaga single in the seventh, the Wildcats take game one, 10-4.

Game 2
Maxwell continued to hit well, doubling to left-center field to lead off the game, but the Wildcats were the first to score after putting three runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Tanimura and Boures both singled to lead off the second inning, putting two runners on the bases with no outs. They were unable to get a run across the board, but getting hits early was a good sign for the Loggers.

The Wildcats continued to show their offensive power, sending four runs home in the bottom of the second. Alyssa Waldo started off the third inning strong, singling to get on base. Estrada then walked, putting runners on first and second. The Wildcats got out of the inning yet again, but pitcher Kara Miyoshi, who came in for the third inning, kept Linfield from scoring.

Boures continued to hit well on the day, singling to left field in the top of the fourth. Brenna Flannery joined Boures with a single, and Kieryn Garcia reached thanks to an error by the third baseman. After a fly ball by Maxwell, pinch runner Jazzy Allen was thrown out trying to go home.

A grand slam shut the door, as the ball game ended 10-0 after five innings.
