SALEM, Ore. - Logger lacrosse fell 18-2 at Willamette on Sunday afternoon. Despite the final score, Puget Sound continued to battle through a tough match as their road trip came to a close.
How it Happened
After Willamette controlled the opening quarter, the Loggers got on the board early in the second. Cat Schilli fired a shot on goal that forced to save, and Willa Twomey was there to clean it up for the Loggers' first goal of the day.
Puget Sound kept the momentum going immediately after the next draw. Maggie Ott won the control to keep possession, leading to a free-position attempt for the Loggers. Twomey capitalized again, firing home her second goal of the afternoon to give Puget Sound back to back goals.
Freshman goalkeeper Ebeth Kline was a bright spot for the Loggers, turning away 14 shots against a relentless Bearcat attack. Kline continues to lead the Northwest Conference in saves per game in her debut season (10.8 avg/g).
Twomey led the offense with two goals on three shots on goal. Schilli was active all over the field, recording three shots on goal and four draw controls. Ott anchored the center circle with seven draw controls, helping the Loggers fight for possession throughout the match. Piper Lewis also added to the pressure with three shot attempts.
While Puget Sound actually won the battle at the draw, turnovers and the shot differential proved to be the difference as the Bearcats maintained their lead to the final whistle.
