Late Surge Lifts Lutes Over Loggers

TACOMA, Wash. - - Logger lacrosse dropped a 7–11 decision to Pacific Lutheran University on Wednesday evening.

How it Happened

The Loggers wasted no time setting the tone. Early in the first quarter, Maggie Ott applied pressure on the Lute's defense, forcing a chaotic play in the crease that resulted in an own goal by the goalkeeper, giving Puget Sound the early momentum.

After the Lutes equalized six minutes later and briefly took the lead, Piper Lewis answered back. Lewis forced a crucial turnover and took it the length of the field for a solo goal to level the score.

Puget Sound's offense found its rhythm in the second quarter. Hailey Woodard capitalized on a free-position attempt to reclaim the lead, and minutes later, she found the back of the net again following an assist from Lewis.

While the Lutes managed to even the score once more, the Loggers remained strong. Ott converted a free-position attempt to put the Loggers back on top. Cat Schilli extended the lead off a dime from Woodard.

The energy shifted coming out of halftime. Pacific Lutheran dominated the third, capitalizing on a lack of possession for the Loggers to rattle off four unanswered goals.

The Loggers' comeback efforts were further hindered in the fourth quarter when Hwang received her second yellow card of the match, resulting in an ejection. Puget Sound was forced to play a man down for the final 11 minutes of regulation. Despite the disadvantage, Willa Twomey managed to find the back of the net in the fourth, but the Lute's offensive surge proved too much to overcome.

What Happens Next

The Loggers return to Peyton Field this Sunday, April 12, to continue Northwest Conference play. Puget Sound will host Lewis & Clark College for their second home appearance of the week. Opening draw is schedule for 1 PM.
