TACOMA, Wash. -- The Logger women's soccer team hands Pacific Lutheran their first loss in Northwest Conference play in 35 games, a streak held since the Loggers last beat them in 2023.
How it Happened
The Loggers continue to roll, and have now outscored their opponents 9-1 in NWC play. This game was completely one-sided, as the Loggers kept the ball in the offensive half nearly the entire game.
Kate short started off the game strong for the Loggers, forcing a Lute save just over a minute into the match. A well-placed ball into the box found her head, which made it difficult for the Lute goalie. Short,
Leila Hausia-Haugen, and
Madi Jarzynka all peppered shots in the first ten minutes of the match, applying more and more pressure on the Lute backline.
The Loggers continued to play well, maintaining possession and working their way both around and through the middle of the field. Hausia-Haugen forced a save in the 26th minute, with Short getting her head to another ball in the box in the 44th. The Lutes first shot of the game wasn't until the 41st minute, which dinged off the crossbar from distance. Other than that, the Loggers kept the sheet clean, dominating the first half stat sheet.
The second half started similarly to the way the first half left off, with
Hayden Goodman and Jarzynka both putting shots on frame in the first two minutes out of half. The Lutes got their first chance of the game in the 57th minute, though, and capitalized on the opportunity. Following a missed clearance, the ball bounced off PLU's Kamila Novotny and into the net. This ended up being the Lute
Down 1-0, the Loggers didn't change their game plan, but instead trusted their process. It paid off within five minutes.
In the 62nd minute following a corner kick, Goodman put a fantastic ball into a dangerous area. The ball bounced around, before Jarzynka redirected it into the back of the net. Just 30 seconds later the Loggers found their second.
Anya Dubois dispossessed a Lute defender just moments after the kickoff, and dribbled her way into the box. A shot through the goalie's legs gave the Loggers the go-ahead goal, completely flipping the tide of the game.
Puget Sound's defense held strong the rest of the way, as the majority of the match was still played in the offensive half. The Loggers continued to press, creating multiple opportunities to add a third goal. They also didn't allow a single PLU shot the rest of the way, and added a whopping 10 shots of their own to close out the game. The Loggers hand their cross-town rivals a major loss, and sit atop the Northwest Conference with a 3-0 record.
Short led the way with 7 shots, three on goal, and a total of 90 minutes played. The team wracked up 24 shots, 7 on goal, holding the Lutes to two shots. Neither Logger goalie had to make a save.

The Loggers make the trip down to Salem, Ore. to face the Willamette Bearcats on Saturday, September 26th, at 2:45 pm.
