SALEM, Ore. -- The Loggers keep their Northwest Conference slate clean, taking down Willamette 2-0 on the road.
How it Happened
Following a massive win over cross-town rival Pacific Lutheran, the Loggers were unfazed against Willamette, continuing their good form and elite defense.
The pressure was on early, as Puget Sound came out of the game firing.
Maya George recorded the first shot of the game just 24 seconds into the match, giving the Bearcats a scare immediately.
Madi Jarzynka put up a shot that led to back-to-back corners, and
Anya Dubois forced the first save at the 4:40 mark.
The Loggers struck just two minutes later, as
Hayden Goodman placed a beautiful ball into the box on a corner kick.
Kate Short rose above two defenders, using her head to ping the ball off the crossbar and down into the goal.
The Bearcats started to put on a bit of pressure after the goal, but
Gianna Maldonado was strong in goal. She saved three shots on goal, including a double save in the 20th minute to keep the sheet clean. The Loggers put the game back on the offensive foot, as
Avery Willis got subbed on and immediately went to work, forcing a Bearcat save just a minute after coming onto the pitch. Two final shots just missed wide from
Charlotte Willis and
Zoe Witter, as Puget Sound took a 1-0 first-half lead.
The Loggers played solid soccer coming out of the halftime break, pushing on the front foot in search for a second goal.
Megan Ulrich came on in the 60th minute, and made her presence known early. She put a shot on frame in the 61st minute, causing chaos as a second effort by Short put the ball over the crossbar. In the 76th minute,
Bre Fulton-Kaneshiro put a chaotic second ball into the box following a corner, with Ulrich getting her first goal as a Logger to make it 2-0.
Puget Sound was able to close out the match, keeping a clean sheet for the third time in their last four games. Ulrich led the way with 4 shots and a goal, as the Loggers peppered Willamette with 18 shots to their 6. Maldonado and
Stella Grigoryan split minutes in goal, each recording 3 saves.

The Loggers head back down to Oregon to face Linfield on Saturday, October 3rd at 2:45 pm.
