FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Junior James Lane (Silverdale, Wash./Avila
College) went the distance in the final game as the Puget Sound
Loggers earned a split with the Pacific Boxers in a Northwest
Conference doubleheader on Monday afternoon in Forest Grove, Ore.
The Boxers took the first game by a final of 3-2 while the Loggers
wrapped up the series with an 8-2 victory.
In the first game, the Loggers struck first as Andrew Grady
(Cave Creek, Ariz./Phoenix Country Day) singled through the right
side to score Matt Cox (Salem, Ore./South Salem). Dakota Resnik
(Bellevue, Wash./Newport) then singled to score Grady as the
Loggers took the 2-0 lead. The Boxers evened it up in the bottom of
the second. The winning run came in the bottom of the fifth as
Pacific collected the 3-2 win in the seven-inning game. Cameron
Duvall (Lakewood, Wash./Lakes) took the loss, allowing three runs
on 11 hits in six innings pitched with four strikeouts and one
walk.
In the final game of the series, the Loggers took the lead with
a pair of runs in the top of the first and never gave it up. The
Boxers struck for a single run in the bottom of the first but the
Loggers got it back in the second when Resnik hit a sacrifice fly
to left to score Jason Powell (Redwood City, Calif./Sacred Heart
Prep). After each team scored once in the fourth, the Loggers
scored three in the fifth as Resnik, Travis Hernandez (Burlington,
Wash./Burlington-Edison) and Will Mentor (Seattle, Wash./Seattle
Prep) all picked up RBIs. The Loggers final run came in the seventh
as Mark Rockey (Mountlake Terrace, Wash./New Mexico) doubled in
Resnik.
Lane picked up his first win of the year, allowing two unearned
runs on five hits in seven innings pitched with four strikeouts.
The Loggers will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when
they play host to Lewis & Clark. First pitch with the Pioneers
is set for Noon on Logger Field in Tacoma, Wash.
