PARKLAND, Wash. - Taking just 2:25 to put their first ball in
net, the top-ranked Puget Sound Loggers held off the upset-minded
Pacific Lutheran Lutes, 4-2, in a Northwest Conference women's
soccer match on Wednesday afternoon at PLU Soccer Field in
Parkland, Wash.
Puget Sound, ranked first in the latest D3Soccer.com Top 25, got
on the scoreboard at the 2:25 mark when Mikaela Freeman (Alameda,
Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) crossed the ball in from the right side and
Maddy Fisk (Corvallis, Ore.) got a head on the ball for her first
collegiate goal. Puget Sound doubled the lead just a few
minutes later when Freeman got her boot on a ball that was
mishandled by PLU keeper Lauren Chambard and the Loggers had a 2-0
lead just 4:40 into the game.
Pacific Lutheran got a goal of their own in the 12th minute when
Olivia Lee fed the ball Karli Hurlbut, who unleashed a strong
left-foot shot from about 12 yards out that got just past Logger
keeper Kallie Wolfer (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline).
Sophomore Jenny Moore (Kent, Wash./Kentwood) made it 3-1 Loggers
heading into the break after Freeman fed in a beautiful ball and
Moore was able to recover after a collision with Chambard to poke
the ball into an empty net.
In the second half, the Lutes struck first when Lee scored on a
corner kick by Courtney Walker just 1:11 into the final period as
PLU got back within a goal. Senior forward Janece Levien
(Beaverton, Ore.) finished up the scoring, tallying her 10th goal
of the season and the 62nd of her career in the 67th minute to give
Puget Sound the 4-2 victory over PLU, their 22nd straight victory
over their crosstown rivals.

21-5 in the second half. Wolfer made four saves to collect
the victory while Chambard made 10 saves and PLU had one team save
