TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Puget Sound
women's soccer team posted a season-high five goals to defeat
the visiting Pacific 5-0 on Sunday. Both Theresa Henle and Jenny
Moore scored two goals to lead the offensive attack for the Loggers
(10-1-1, 7-1 NWC).
The Loggers dominated the possession time for most of the match,
putting continued pressure on the Boxers' (5-6-1, 5-3 NWC)
defense. The Loggers outshot the Boxers 21-3 in the match, putting
13 shots on goal. Brittany Hartmann made eight saves for the
Boxers.
Six of Hartmann's saves came in the first half as she kept
the Boxers within striking distance. Henle, who took six shots
(four on goal) struck first at the 16-minute mark. After a corner
was punched up in the air by Hartmann, Henle lined up a shot and
fired it into the net before the ball could get back down to the
earth for a 1-0 Logger lead.
In the 45th minute, Moore scored the first of her goals on a
penalty kick. Molly Winterrowd drew a foul in the box as she drove
toward the goal, resulting in a PK. Moore lined it up correctly and
gave the Loggers a 2-0 lead with 14 seconds left in the half.
It didn't take long for the Christine Isabella to
contribute to the rout as she bent in a free kick from 18 yards
out. Her free kick bent perfectly around the wall and just inside
the far post for a 3-0 Logger lead.
Henle scored again in the 65th minute after Kelly Andersen found
her open about 13 yards from the goal. Moore's second goal
came in the 84th minute after Piper Frame crossed it into the box
and Moore chipped it over the goalie's head for a 5-0
lead.
Jordan Bodily led the Boxers with a pair of shots, which both
were put on goal. Jess Yarbrough was able to save both for two
saves in the match.
The Loggers will remain home next week to host Whitman on
Saturday at noon and Whitworth on Sunday at noon. Sunday's
game matches the Loggers and Pirates, who are currently tied on top
of the NWC standings.
