NEWBERG, Ore. – The University of Puget Sound women's
soccer team exploded for four goals in the second half en route to
a 4-0 win over the host George Fox. The Loggers (8-1-1, 5-1 NWC)
outshot the Bruins (3-5-2, 2-4 NWC) 33-2 in the match.
Theresa Henle
scored a pair of goals in the match to pace the Loggers highest
scoring output of the year. Henle's first goal came in the 56th
minute when Kelly Anderson found her on a cross into the box. The
goal was the second of three goals in a 10-minte span of the second
half.
Henle's second goal came just three minutes later in the 59th
minute as she dribbled by a defender and beat the goalie from seven
yards out.
After outshooting the Bruins 15-1 in the first half with out
finding a goal, the Loggers came out of the locker rooms determined
to put one in the net. It took less than three minutes as Mikaela Freeman beat the
keeper from 15 yards out after receiving the cross from Abby Goss. Henle scored her
two goals in the next 10 minutes to quickly give the Loggers a 3-0
lead.
Madie Whitsel put an exclamation point on the victory with her
first goal of the year. Whitsel picked up her own rebound after her
first shot attempt was blocked and put it in the back of the net
from five yards out to give the Loggers a 4-0 lead in the 87th
minutes.
Jess Yarbrough earned the win and the shutout in goal.
The Loggers return home next week to host Linfield on Saturday
at noon and Pacific on Sunday at noon.a
