TACOMA, Wash. – A gloomy and rainy day in Tacoma, Wash.
didn't slow down the University of Puget Sound women's
soccer team as they defeated Linfield 3-1 on Saturday. The Loggers
(9-1-1, 6-1 NWC) used two late goals to pull away from the Wildcats
(7-4, 5-2 NWC) and stay unbeaten at home.
Molly Winterrowd gave the Loggers the early lead with a goal in
the 23rd minute. Abby Goss earned an assist on the play. Casey
Thayer made one save in the opening half to preserve the lead.
However, a free kick in the 53rd minute snuck past Thayer to tie
the game at 1-1. Christine Isabella responded for the Loggers when
she chipped in a goal from 12 yards out to put the Loggers back on
top. Winterrowd earned the assist to give her a three point
day.
Theresa Henle put an exclamation point on the victory when she
scored her 10th goal of the season. Henle won a corner kick and
headed it into the net for a 3-1 lead in the 83rd minute.
Despite putting three goals on the board, the Loggers took just
eight shots to the Wildcats five. However, six of those shots came
in the second half to help the Loggers secure the victory.
The Loggers host Pacific tomorrow at noon on East Field.
