LACEY, Wash. - Erasing an early seven-run deficit to tie the
game at 9-9 midway through, the Puget Sound Loggers were able to
pull out the comeback win, falling to the Saint Martin's Saints,
14-10, in a non-conference baseball game on Wednesday afternoon in
Lacey, Wash.
The Saints bats came alive early as they chased Puget Sound
starter Cameron Duvall (Lakewood, Wash./Lakes) early as they built
a 9-2 lead. The Loggers warmed up the lumber a few innings
later, using a two-inning run to tie the game at 9-9 on a two-RBI
single by Mark Rockey (Mountlake Terrace, Wash./Univ. of New
Mexico) in the top of the fifth.
SMU stopped the Logger run there and used five unanswered runs
to take the comfortable lead, 14-9, heading into the final frame.
The Loggers were able to put a single run on the scoreboard
in the top of the ninth but the Saint Martin's pen was able to
close it out to collect the 14-10 win.
With a three-game conference series coming up this weekend, the
Loggers used five pitchers on the day to spread out the workload.
Sophomore Matt Cox (Salem, Ore./South Salem) had a double and
a triple on the game while Rockey finished with three RBIs on the
afternoon.
The Loggers will be in action again on Saturday when they play
host to Whitworth in a Northwest Conference doubleheader beginning
at Noon.
