Box Score Redlands, Calif. – The Logger bats rolled out 12 hits but the University of Puget Sound baseball team suffered a 9-3 loss at Redlands on Sunday. Matt Cox and Casey Coberly each had three hits for the Loggers (7-8).
With 12 hits in the game, the Loggers actually outhit the Bulldogs (15-6) but the Bulldogs were able to push more runs across. Coberly gave the Loggers a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when he plated Cox with a double.
The Bulldogs tied it up in the top of the second when Jason Henning scored on a ground ball. In the fourth, the Henning gave the bulldogs a lead with an RBI-double and later scored on a double from Jon Cavender.
In the bottom half, Christian Carter doubled in Tucker Barney to bring the Loggers within one run at 3-2.
Talor Volz started the game on the mound, going 5.2 innings while giving up six hits and four runs. The Loggers also received some more solid performances from the bullpen as Zach LaBorde and Jeff Walton did not allow an earned run over the final three innings although the Bulldogs pushed across two unearned runs against the Loggers.
In the sixth, the Bulldogs captured momentum with four runs. Nate Carlson highlighted the scoring with a here-run homer. In the bottom half, Walton brought in Coberly with a single into left field to put the Loggers down 7-3.
However, the Bulldogs pushed across two late insurance runs while holding the Loggers scoreless for the win.
The Loggers return home next week as they dive back into NWC play with a three-game series against Lewis & Clark.
