Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – Matt Robinson strung together another solid performance on the mound to lead the University of Puget Sound baseball team to a 6-2 victory over Lewis & Clark on Saturday. Robinson moved to 4-1 on the year, allowing just five hits and one earned run in eight innings of work.
Robinson also tallied five strikeouts while surrendering just one walk. The sophomore hurler now has ratio of five strikeouts to every walk on the season. He also lowered his ERA to a team-leading 1.77.
Despite his strong outing, the Pios (3-15, 2-11 NWC) jumped out to an early lead with a run in the first. Parker Dane reached on a single and moved up to second on a wild pitch. Tucker Laurence cashed in Dane with another single to give the Pios a 1-0 lead. However, they didn't hold the lead for long as Chaz Kramer plated Casey Coberly in the Loggers' (8-8, 6-1 NWC) half of the inning to knot the game at 1-1.
In the third, the Loggers struck again as Coberly knocked in Dakota Resnik with a single and Matt Cox later scored on a double steal with Coberly. Jeff Walton further padded the Loggers lead in the fourth with a solo homer that pushed the lead to 4-1.
In the seventh, Andrew Grady led off with a double and scored on a triple from Cox. Cox came around to score on a groundout from Coberly to give the Loggers a 6-1 lead.
Michael Ball scored on an error in the Pios' eighth. However, Robinson quickly squashed the rally and Cameron Duvall tossed a scoreless ninth to hold on to the Logger lead.
Saturday was originally scheduled as a doubleheader but the nightcap was cancelled due to rain. The Loggers and Pios will now play a doubleheader at 11 a.m. tomorrow instead of a single game.
