Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Puget Sound baseball team fell victim to a hot-hitting George Fox team 15-2 on Sunday. The win gave the Bruins (20-8, 11-7 NWC) the series win over the Loggers (12-13, 10-5 NWC).
The teams battled through a scoreless first inning, but the George Fox bats would take over in the second and score 10 runs over the next three innings.
The Bruins put up three runs in the second behind a sacrifice fly from Jay Kirchhofer and a two-RBI double from Dan Winterstein for a 3-0 lead. Kirchhofer was one of four Bruins to finish with three hits and one of five to finish with multiple RBIs.
Nate Hickok led the way for the Bruins, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored.
After the Bruins pushed their lead to 5-0 in the third inning, the Loggers answered back with two runs of their own to stay within striking distance. Matt Cox hit a two-RBI double just inside the left field foul line to score Andrew Grady and Dakota Resnik..
However, the pair of runs would be all the Loggers could muster while the Bruins continued to roll at the plate. In the fourth inning, the Bruins put up five more runs to surge to a 10-2 lead. They put up four more in the sixth and added one more in the seventh before both teams were held scoreless over the final two frames.
The Loggers will look to get back on the winning track next week when they travel across town to Pacific Lutheran for a three-game series.
