Box Score PARKLAND, Wash. – For the first time this season, the University of Puget Sound baseball dropped an NWC series-opener. The Loggers (12-14, 10-6 NWC) couldn't scratch out a run in a 4-0 loss at Pacific Lutheran on Saturday.
Max Beatty tossed a complete-game shutout for the Lutes, scattering five Logger hits and striking out seven. Matt Robinson struck out four batters in five innings of work, allowing two runs (one earned) for a tough loss.
The Lutes took advantage in the first inning when Jaron Iwakami scored on a Logger error for a 1-0 Lute lead. The Lutes would threaten over the next two innings but not scratch out a run as they stranded seven runners in the first three innings. The Lutes stranded 14 runners on base in the game.
On the other hand, the Loggers did not advance a runner to third base and did not get a runner to second until Dakota Resnik reached second on a Lute error in the top of the sixth.
Christian Carter accounted for two of the Loggers five hits, going 2-for-3 in the game.
The Loggers and Lutes will continue their rivalry series tomorrow with a noon doubleheader.
