PASCO, Wash. – Nathan Aguiar tossed seven shutout inning and the Puget Sound baseball team rewarded him with a 8-5 win over Lewis & Clark on Saturday. The Loggers (1-1) scored in each of the first four innings to key the win.

Aguiar threw seven strong innings as he kept the Pioneers (0-2) off the board. He allowed just five hits through seven innings while striking out one and issuing one walk.

While Aguiar dominated on the mound, the Logger offense went to work with runs in each of the first four innings. Jeff Walton got the Loggers on the board when his sacrifice fly scored Jake Boley from third. In the second, Connor Savage scored on a balk to make the score 2-0.

Savage stole three bases against the Pios to give him five swipes in his first two games as a Logger. Savage scored again in the sixth on a bases loaded walk.

The Loggers scored two more times in the third on a Bobby Hosmer single and another Pio balk. Eric Lund singled in another run in the fourth to open a 5-0 Logger lead.

Hosmer scored in the seventh when Lund was hit by a pitch and Kaulana Smith scored on the next play as Boley drew a bases-loaded walk. With an 8-0 lead, the Loggers brought in Zach LaBorde from the bullpen in the eighth.

The Pios bats warmed up in the eighth as they compiled five runs on four hits and a Logger error. Steve Wagar made his Logger debut on the mound later in the eighth and eventually earned the save with a perfect ninth.

The Loggers finish up their first weekend of the 2012 season with a doubleheader against Corban and Whitworth.
