Box Score PORTLAND, Ore.—The Northwest Conference champion Puget Sound women's soccer team closed out its regular season with a 13th consecutive victory, a 2-0 win at Lewis & Clark in Portland, Ore.
The Loggers once again took the first couple shots of the match as Amalia Acorda-Fey saw a third-minute attempt saved by Pioneer keeper Geena Fong. Five minutes later, Alex Teesdale had an attempt off a corner, but the shot sailed high and out for a goal kick.
Between the 9th and 38th minutes, Lewis & Clark tallied just one shot and one corner, while the Loggers saw one of their attacks called offside. The game picked up again in the 38th minute with a four minute offensive flurry when Haley Rosenberg sent a shot high. Just a minute later, Casey Thayer made her only save of the day, stopping a shot from Lewis & Clark's Emily Thompson from crossing the line. The Loggers then took two more shots, an attempt from Acorda-Fey blocked and a shot on target by Robin Vieira saved by Fong. The Loggers were also called offside for the second time in the period during that stretch.
After the half, Puget Sound took the first five shots, three of them coming within a minute. At 47:03, Annie Jonsson sent a shot wide. 32 seconds later, Acorda-Fey put one of frame only to see Fong get a hand on it. Jonsson picked up the rebound and sent it towards the net, but the Pioneer defense blocked it before it could threaten the goal.
In the 51st minute, the Loggers broke through when Kylie Beeson finished off a cross from Acorda-Fey. Beeson received the pass from her left and slid the ball into the right side of the net. The goal was Beeson's seventh of the season, just one behind Acorda-Fey for the team lead.
Just over a minute later, Jonsson added to the Logger lead when she found herself on a breakaway towards the Lewis & Clark net. From 10 yards out, she beat Fong and booted the ball into the empty net for her third of the season.
Those two goals were all the Loggers needed but they didn't rest on their laurels, taking seven more shots in the rest of the match. Two of them were on target and saved by Fong, while two more were blocked before reaching the net.
Lewis & Clark attempted six shots in the second half, but four of them came after the 77th minute. The only one on target, a strike from Anna Thorndike, was saved by Puget Sound keeper Lauren Thomas to preserve the clean sheet.
The Loggers have now won 13 matches in a row, their longest win streak since winning 16 straight in 2008. They've also kept four consecutive clean sheets and held opponents scoreless in 12 of their last 14 contests, only conceding two goals in that stretch.
