Bruins Complete Series Sweep Of Loggers

Box Score

TACOMA, Wash. – George Fox completed its sweep of the Puget Sound baseball team on Monday, taking the extra inning win from Saturday's halted game and a 16-6 win in the series finale. Jeff Walton had two hits and three RBIs for the Loggers (11-18, 6-9 NWC) but the 17th-ranked Bruins (22-8, 15-3 NWC) had three players with at leas three RBIs.

The Loggers and Bruins picked up Saturday's halted game tied at 4-4 heading into the 10th inning. Matt Zeller led off for the Bruins with a single, was sacrificed over to second and came around to score on another single from Zac Israel for a 5-4 Bruin lead.

JB Eary singled with one out to put the Loggers in business in the bottom half. Both Stephen Kelsey and Connor Savage drove long fly balls into the gap but both were tracked down just in front of the warning tracks to end the game in the Bruins favor.

The momentum from their extra inning win carried over into the series finale as the offense exploded for 16 runs. Eleven of those runs came in the fourth and fifth innings to put the game well in hand.

A run in the first and two more in the second put the Bruins up 3-0 out of the gates. With Savage on third and Lucas Stone on second in the third inning, Kaulana Smith hit a chopper headed out into right field. Savage scored easily but a diving stop from Israel at second base more than likely saved a run and retired Smith at first.

With the score now 3-1, the Bruins erupted fro six runs in the fourth. Jared Chase opened the inning with a solo homer and the Bruins stayed on a roll. Five more runs came across in the fifth to put the visitors up 14-1.

The Loggers picked up two in the sixth on a Walton double and grounder from Alex Sierra. Three consecutive singles in the seventh scored another run with Chris Zerio's single up the middle producing the run and Wlaton later doubled in two more.

However, the Bruins had done too much damage and they came away with the series sweep.

The Loggers head south next weekend for a three-game series at Lewis & Clark.
