Box Score TACOMA, Washington – In a battle for first place in the Northwest Conference, the No. 18 Puget Sound women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss to Pacific Lutheran on Wednesday evening.

Despite the end result,
Robin Vieira notched her sixth goal of the year and her third in the last five days. She scored from 20 yards out after making a long run up the middle. Vieira also led the Loggers in shots with two.
Defensively, Puget Sound (12-4, 10-3 NWC) held Pacific Lutheran (13-3-1, 11-2 NWC) scoreless through 54 minutes of play with goalkeeper Lauren Thomas recording two saves in the match.
In the first half, Puget Sound started strong with shots from Amalia Acorda-Fey, Vieira and Jordyn McLuen in the first 16 minutes that forced the Pacific Lutheran goalkeeper, Bryce Kennedy, to make saves. On the other end of the pitch, the Logger defense denied the Lutes of a shot for a 29 minute stretch.
The second half started in a scoreless tie before the Lutes took the lead by heading in a corner kick. As the Loggers were trying to tie the game, they went a man down in the 70th minute. Annie Jonsson received a red card for a challenge against the Pacific Lutheran goalkeeper. Two minutes later, the Lutes extended their lead to two.
Battling back, Emma Donckels sent in a header that was saved by the Lute goalkeeper. Minutes later, Vieira found the back of the net to make the score 2-1. Despite the attempted comeback, the Lutes snuck in a third goal in the 88th minute to secure the win.
The Loggers and the Lutes both recorded eight shots while the Lutes had a slight edge in corner kicks (4-3). Both teams picked up cards in the match. Puget Sound was given one yellow and one red card while Pacific Lutheran received one yellow card.
The Loggers remain in the hunt for first place as they travel to take on Linfield at 11 am on Sunday, Nov. 2.
