TACOMA, Wash.—The Puget Sound baseball squad won its seventh game in a row Saturday by blowing past Willamette 12-4 at Logger Field in Tacoma, Wash.

The Loggers found themselves down 2-0 entering the bottom of the third, but an RBI single from Troy Kakugawa and an RBI double from Connor Savage brought the game level at two. Puget Sound added two more in the fourth when Christian Carter ripped a single into center field, plating Nathan Backes and Jeff Walton.

Puget Sound's first lead of the game didn't last long, however, as the Bearcats countered with two more in the top of the fifth. Tosh Semlacher ripped a double off Puget Sound starter Steve Wagar, sending the ball down the left field line and plating two Bearcat runners.

The runs re-established the tie score, although that score would not last long. In the first at bat of the home half of the fifth, Lucas Stone smashed his first home run of the year, depositing a pitch from Tyler Olson over the right field fence. The solo homer game the Loggers the lead, one they would not relinquish. Puget Sound went on to score three runs in the bottom of the sixth – two of which came off a double to left center from Nick Funyak – and they added two more in the seventh when Backes homered down the left field line, plating Chris Zerio with the blast.

Finally, the home team closed the scoring summary with two more in the eighth inning when Zerio and Walton both drew bases-loaded walks for one RBI each. The walked-in runs gave the Loggers an eight-run lead, matching their largest margin of victory during the seven game streak.

Puget Sound's seven-game win streak is the school's largest since also winning seven straight from March 2 to March 15, 2008.

Backes, Funyak, and Kakugawa both collected two hits and two RBIs each against the Bearcats Saturday, and both Backes and Funyak added three runs apiece. Eight of Puget Sound's nine starting fielders tallied at least one RBI on the day, and seven of those starters also tallied at least one hit. On the mound,  Wagar threw his second consecutive complete game, going all 9.0 innings while allowing four runs – three earned – while fanning four batters.

The Loggers (14-17, 12-10 NWC) look to close out their 2014 home slate with two more victories as they host Willamette for the final two games of the series. First pitch in the doubleheader is slated for 12:00 p.m. Between the two contests, the Puget Sound baseball program will honor its six graduating seniors with a Senior Day ceremony.
