TACOMA, Washington – The University of Puget Sound women's soccer team won its home opener with a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon over Northwest University at Peyton Field.
Puget Sound (1-1) started the game hot with a goal in the third minute by junior Amalia Acorda-Fey. This is her second goal in as many games. Northwest (1-3-1) tied the game in the 61st minute on a cross to the right side. Delivering the game winning goal in the 75th minute for the Loggers was Annie Jonsson.
After the Eagles' lone goal, the Logger defense kept Northwest from firing a shot on goal for the rest of the game.
Puget Sound topped Northwest in shots (13-9). Northwest took six corner kicks to Puget Sound's five. Acorda-Fey and Jonsson led the Loggers in shots with three each while goalkeeper Lauren Thomas recorded two saves.
Puget Sound's next match will occur Friday, September 5, when it hosts St. Thomas (Minn.) at 5:30 p.m.
