Box Score TACOMA, Washington – The No. 22 ranked University of Puget Sound women's soccer team took down No. 17 ranked Pacific Lutheran 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
The game was a tale of two halves, with the Lutes (12-2-1, 8-2-1 NWC) having the better chances in the first 45 minutes. PLU had two shots go off the crossbar in the first 20 minutes, but the two teams entered the break scoreless.
The Loggers (11-0-4, 7-0-4 NWC) came out of halftime looking to press Pacific Lutheran. They had the better chances in the second half, and finally broke through in the 85th minute. Amalia Acorda-Fey was taken down outside the box on the left side to earn a foul. Acorda-Fey took the free kick herself, serving a ball into the six-yard box. Emma Donckels rose to meet the ball with her head, beating the keeper and putting the home team on the scoreboard.
The Loggers were outshot by PLU (7-5), and the Lutes took more corner kicks (5-3). Jacquelyn Anderson led Puget Sound with three shots, while goalkeeper Lauren Thomas (11-0-4) earned her 12th shutout of the year while making two saves.
Dating back to last fall, the Loggers are unbeaten in 18 consecutive regular-season games. Puget Sound will next host Pacific on Saturday, October 24. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
