Rowan-Kennedy sharp in 9-2 win over Willamette

TACOMA, Washington - A four-run fifth inning blew the game wide open as the Puget Sound baseball team won its sixth-consecutive game with a 9-2 triumph over Willamette on Saturday afternoon. Puget Sound starting pitcher Merle Rowan-Kennedy yielded just one run through seven innings as he improved to 4-1 on the season.

The Loggers (10-7, 8-2 NWC) held a 3-1 lead over the Bearcats (13-4, 6-4 NWC) when Nickolas Alarcio led off the fifth inning with a walk and Chris Zerio followed with a single. Nathan Bathes singled home Alarcio, and Layne Croney's single loaded the bases.

Bobby Hosmer capitalized with an RBI single up the middle, and Johnny Hosmer's groundout allowed Backes to touch home plate. Troy Kakugawa's single to left scored Croney can capped off the Loggers' rally.

Puget Sound and Willamette begin a doubleheader on Sunday, March 15, at 11 a.m.
