Box Score TACOMA, Washington – Neither the Puget Sound women's soccer team, nor Pacific Lutheran were able to score, so they remain tied atop the Northwest Conference table after tying. The two teams played to a scoreless draw on Wednesday afternoon on Peyton Field.
The Loggers and the Lutes used the first 10 minutes to feel each other out, battling in the midfield. In the 10th minute, Elizabeth McGraw took the game's first shot. Shortly after, Machaela Graddy took the Lutes first shot of the match. The first half proved to be an even affair, with both squads taking four shots.
The second half was similar to the first, with each team finding some scoring chances, but with a lot of the play occurring in the midfield. Neither team was able to break through, and the two teams moved to overtime.
The Lutes had one of their best chances of the game in the first overtime period. Graddy was able to take the ball down the field and have a one-on-one with Logger keeper Lauren Thomas. Thomas was able to make a save on the low shot to keep the score level.
The Loggers took control of the game in the second overtime period, playing almost exclusively in their attacking third. However, they were unable to score, and the top two teams in the conference would have to settle for a point each.
Puget Sound outshot PLU, 16-12, while the Lutes took more corner kicks (7-3). Goalkeeper Lauren Thomas (8-1-2) played all 110 minutes, making seven saves. Lura Morton led the team with three shots, while nine other players recorded a shot.
Puget Sound's next match will be Sunday, October 9, when the team hosts Lewis & Clark at 12 p.m.
