Box Score TACOMA, Washington – Merle Rowan-Kennedy tossed seven shutout innings and three Loggers had multi-hit games as the Puget Sound baseball team clinched a series win against George Fox with a 3-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Prior to the game's first pitch, Puget Sound (14-15, 11-10 NWC) honored its senior student-athletes and their families: Nickolas Alarcio, Nathan Backes, Anthony Brady, Nick Funyak, Zak Holcomb, Ben Jones, Collin Maier, Cole Mauter, Alex Sierra, and Chris Zerio.
Rowan-Kennedy allowed just five hits and struck out two batters to improve to 2-2 on the season. Brady picked up his first save of the season by working two hitless innings.
Cal Muramaru and James Dejesus both finished 2-for-4, and Connor Dunn went 2-for-3. Muramaru led off the third inning with a double, and he came in to score the game's first run thanks to a sac fly by Zerio.
Dejesus began the sixth inning with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Muramaru's bunt single allowed Dejesus to score Puget Sound's second run. Dunn hit a leadoff single in the eighth inning and moved into scoring position thanks to a sac bunt by Muramaru. Zerio then reached based on a throwing error by the third baseman, which allowed Dunn to sprint home with an insurance run.
The Loggers conclude conference play in the regular season with a three-game series at Pacific Lutheran. The doubleheader on Saturday, April 9, starts at 12 p.m.
