Brennan and Warnick turn in good starts, but Loggers lose two

PARKLAND, Washington – Michael Warnick struck out nine batters in five innings, and Kyle Strash pushed his hitting streak 10 games, but the Loggers lost two Northwest Conference games against George Fox Saturday afternoon. The Loggers hosted the Bruins at Pacific Lutheran.

Strash went 2-for-4 in both games. He has a 10-game hitting streak in which he's hitting .441 (15-for-34).

 

Puget Sound 3, George Fox 5

Puget Sound starting pitcher Joe Brennen yielded just one earned run in six innings, but George Fox got to the Loggers' bullpen in a 5-3 win over Puget Sound. 

Brennan struck out six and allowed only three hits.

Strash led off the home half of the first inning with a single to centerfield, and he stole second. A throwing error on the steal allowed him to take third, and Jack Gries drove him home with a single.

George Fox held a 5-1 lead entering the bottom of the eighth, but the Loggers managed to get just two more runs. Connor Dunn's sac fly in the eighth inning scored Hunter Riley. In the ninth inning, Cal Muramaru stole third base, and he came home to score when the throw to third was mishandled.

 

Puget Sound 2, George Fox 12

Michael Warnick's nine striekouts are a career-high, but the Bruins once agains touched up the Loggers' bullpen in a 12-2 win.

Warnick allowed only two runs in five innings.

Puget Sound claimed a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. Trailing by a run, Tyler Brazelton drew a one-out walk, and Connor Dunn followed with a single. Dylan Salcedo was hit by a pitch to load the bases for James Dejesus, and the senior lifted a sac fly to score Brazelton.

Kyle Strash immediately followed with a single to centerfield that gave the Loggers a one-run edge.

The Bruins put two runs on the board in the seventh inning, and seven more in the ninth.

The three-game series concludes Sunday, April 15, at 12 p.m. Puget Sound will honor six seniors and their loved ones before first pitch.
