FOREST GROVE, Oregon – Each of the Loggers' one-through-four batters in the lineup collected multiple hits as the Puget Sound baseball team picked up its first win of the season with a 5-3 non-conference victory against Whitman Sunday. Pacific hosted the game. 

Connor Dunn, Jack Gries, Hunter Riley, and Mason Quinlan combined to hit 8-for-15 with a walk and two doubles. Gries and Quinlan each had the extra-base hit.

The Blues (3-5) held a 3-0 lead entering the fifth inning, but Puget Sound (1-5) tied the game in bottom of the frame. Tyler Mick got the rally with a one-out single, and Dunn followed with a walk. Mick was thrown out at home following a base knock by Gries, but the play left two runners in scoring position with two outs.

Riley came through with a two-out, two-run single to right field, and Quinlan tied the game with an RBI double to left-center.

Puget Sound's go-ahead runs were scored in the sixth inning with one swing of the bat by Clayton Waltz. Following a Jake Brady double and a Sean Rooney walk, Waltz smacked a two-run single to right-center field.

Puget Sound relief pitcher Owen Shellhammer got his first collegiate win by pitching two clean innings in relief of Makoa Mau (5.0 IP) . Freshman Nate Kloempken picked up his first-career save with a shutout ninth inning.
