Box Score

SALEM, Oregon – Three Loggers homered as the Puget Sound baseball team earned its first Northwest Conference win of the season with an 11-7 triumph at Willamette Sunday afternoon.

Hunter Riley cleared the fences for the third time this weekend, while Jacob Ota and Ricardo Barraza both homered for the first time in 2020.

The Loggers (4-6, 1-2 NWC) struck first when Jackson Bolitho hit an RBI triple in the top of the second inning. Riley immediately followed with a two-run homer to give Puget Sound a 3-0 edge. The Loggers tacked on another run when Ota led off the fourth inning with a solo home run.

Willamette (5-5, 2-1) tied the game, 4-4, in the fifth inning, but Puget Sound put together another three-run rally in the sixth. Bolitho reached base with a leadoff single and Riley was hit by pitch. Both runners eventually came around to score on a single by Mason Quinlan.

Ota drove in Quinlan with a base hit to give Puget Sound a 7-4 edge.

Barraza led off the seventh inning with a home run, and Riley smacked a two-run double in the eighth stanza.

Starting pitcher Makoa Mau earned the win after allowing just two earned runs in five innings.

Puget Sound makes its home debut Saturday, Feb. 29, with a doubleheader against George Fox. First pitch is at 11 a.m.
