Roberts and Strash lead Loggers to 7-4 win at CMS

Box Score

CLAREMONT, California – Corey Roberts had a three-hit game and Kyle Strash scored three runs as the Puget Sound baseball team finished its California weekend with a 7-4 win at Claremont-M-S Sunday afternoon.

Roberts went 3-for-4 at the plate with a couple of RBIs, and Strash finished 2-for-4 with the bat.

The Loggers (2-2) struck for two runs in the first inning. Strash started the game with a single, and Hunter Riley followed with a walk. Mason Quinlan lifted a deep fly ball that allowed Strash to tag up and move to third, and then Roberts followed with a sac fly. Dylan Joyce added another run for the Loggers with an RBI single.

Puget Sound took a 3-0 lead in the second inning when Ryota Nishino reached base on an error and later scored on an error. The Stags (3-1) committed five errors in the game. Puget Sound had a clean slate in the field.

CMS pulled to within a run, 3-2, after three innings. An RBI single by Riley in the fourth inning, and two more Puget Sound runs in the fifth (one off another error), cushioned the Loggers' lead.

Andrew Matsueda earned the win by pitching three shutout innings and allowing just one hit in relief of starter Matthew Hicks.

Puget Sound next has a non-conference doubleheader at Linfield, Feb. 15, starting at 12 p.m.
