Box Score 2 TACOMA, Washington – Davis Miller had a quality start while Dylan Joyce, Makoa Mau, and Corey Roberts each had three-hit games, but the Puget Sound baseball team lost two Northwest Conference games at Pacific Lutheran Saturday afternoon.
Puget Sound 2, Pacific Lutheran 7
Loggers' starting pitcher Davis Miller allowed just one earned run through six innings, but the Lutes scored three unearned runs on their way to a 7-2 win to open the series.
Puget Sound took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Mason Quinlan reached on a fielder's choice, and Corey Roberts followed with a single. Quinlan scored on a double by Dylan Joyce, and Roberts reached home on a wild pitch.
The Loggers were shutout for the next eight innings, however. Makoa Mau and Hunter Riley hit consecutive one-out singles in the fifth, but the threat ended with a double play.
Joyce and Mau both went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Riley finished 2-for-4.
Puget Sound 4, Pacific Lutheran 11
Just like the first game, Puget Sound claimed a first-inning lead. However, Pacific Lutheran persevered again, 11-4.
Hunter Riley hit a leadoff single in the first, and he eventually moved to third on a base hit by Mason Quinlan. A single by Corey Roberts brought Riley home.
The Lutes answered back with two runs in the first, and they took a 5-1 lead after the five innings.
Puget Sound put a couple of runs on the board in the sixth inning, including an RBI single by Jacob Ota.
Roberts finished the game 3-for-4 with the stick, while Riley and Quinlan were both 2-for-4.
The Loggers and Lutes conclude their series Sunday, March 8, at 12 p.m.
