Brennan strikes out 10 as Logger beat PLU, 6-5

Box Score

PARKLAND, Washington – Six Loggers put up multiple hits and Joe Brennan tied his career-high in strikeouts as the Puget Sound baseball team beat Pacific Lutheran, 6-5, on the road Sunday.

Brennan worked eight innings and struck out 10 for his first win of the season. The senior southpaw fanned 10 earlier this season at Pacific (Feb. 16).

Freshman Dylan Joyce locked down his third save of the season.

The Lutes (6-7, 2-4 NWC) took 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning, but Puget Sound (5-11, 2-7 NWC) wasted little time in chipping away. Makoa Mau hit a two-out single in the third inning, and he got himself into scoring position by swiping second base. Mason Quinlan put the Loggers on the board with an RBI double to center field.

In the top of the fourth inning, Jacob Ota hit a leadoff triple, and Jonas Kim drove him home with a double.

The Loggers posted two runs in the sixth inning to claim a 4-3 lead. Ricardo Barraza hit an RBI double that scored Kim, and later in the inning Barraza came around to score on a wild pitch.

Brennan held the Lutes hitless from the fifth inning through the eighth inning. His outing ended by striking out the side in the eighth.

Hunter Riley, Quinlan, Ota, Kim, Barraza, and AJ Morioka each finished with two hits. Puget Sound had 15 hits in all, and it posted double-digit hits in each game of the series at PLU.

The Loggers take a break from conference action and head to California for games at Redlands (March 15) and Claremont-M-S (March 16).
