Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 TACOMA, Washington – Davis Miller was stellar on the mound, and Jesse Awa hit his first home run of the season to lead the Puget Sound baseball team to a 5-3 win over Willamette Saturday afternoon. The Loggers lost the second game of the doubleheader, 12-0.
Miller allowed only two earned runs in 7.1 innings. While pounding the strike zone with authority – and throwing an abundance of first-pitch strikes – he kept the Bearcats off balance throughout his outing.
The Loggers trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the first inning, but they put together a two-out rally to tie the game. Dylan Joyce and Jonas Kim hit consecutive singles, and Jack McCullar followed with a single of his own to plate Joyce.
Puget Sound scored three runs in the second inning. Awa led off with a single, and Jake Briscoe followed with a base hit of his own. Following a sac bunt by William Gross, Jackson Bolitho smacked a single to score Awa. Kyle Strash immediately followed with a deep sac fly to centerfield that scored Briscoe, and Joyce drove Bolitho home with a single up the middle.
In the third inning, Awa belted a no-doubt solo home run over the right-field fence. He finished the game with three hits.
Joyce came on in relief of Miller in the 8th inning and locked down his second save of the season.
The Loggers are on the road next week for two games at George Fox, April 3-4.
