Box Score 2 WALLA WALLA, Washington – Clutch hits by Makana Murashige and AJ Morioka propelled the Puget Sound baseball team to a 3-1 win at Whitman Sunday afternoon. The Loggers lost the second game, 11-6.
Puget Sound 3, Whitman 1
The Loggers pieced together a two-out rally to edge past the Blues in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader.
Shane Himeda reached base with two outs when he was hit by a pitch, and Clayton Waltz followed by drawing a walk. Murashige came through with an RBI single that broke a 1-1 tie.
AJ Morioka then came in to pinch hit, and he smacked a singe to score Waltz and give the Loggers a 3-1 lead.
Peter Fagan earned the win out of the bullpen by holding the Blues hitless and scoreless in the final 2.1 innings. Starting pitcher Davis Miller allowed just one earned run and struck out five in six innings of work.
Puget Sound 6, Whitman 11
AJ Morioka homered the second time this weekend, but the Blues totaled 12 hits to win the series finale.
The Blues took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Puget Sound responded by plating three runs in the second. Jack Golbranson hit a two-run triple, and he came into score on a single by Aaron Tom.
Whitman tied the game in the home half of the second, but Gio Parascondola gave the lead back to the Loggers with two-run single in the third inning. The Blues, however, went on to score eight unanswered runs.
Morioka hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.
Parascondola had a strong finish to his freshman campaign. He hit 6-for-12 with 10 RBI and a home run in his final four games. Likewise, Morioka – a senior – finished strong in his final season. He hit 7-for-12 with a home run in his last four games.
