TACOMA, Wash. - Using quality over quantity, the Puget Sound
Loggers came back to defeat the Pacific Lutheran Lutes, 2-1, in a
Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Wednesday afternoon on
Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.
The Loggers, who were out shot in the first half 12-3, fell
behind in the 26th minute when PLU's Derek Karamatic took a long
pass, dribbled past a UPS defender and powered a shot near the
right post to give the Lutes a 1-0 lead. Senior Kyle Johnson
(Bremerton, Wash.) evened things up less than five minutes later
when he dribbled the ball along the endline and then put in a shot
from right off the left post that snuck past PLU keeper Daniel
Mangum.
The winning score came in the 76th minute when senior Taylor
Hyde (Sandy, Utah/Waterford) took a touch from Zach Semago (Tacoma,
Wash./Bellarmine Prep) following a pass from Sean Rice (Boulder,
Colo.) and Hyde used his left foot to fire in his fifth goal of the
season.
Logger keeper Greg Saetrum (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) was solid
in net, making four saves and allowing just one goal as the Lutes
fired off 19 shots but just five on net. Mangum made just one
save for the Lutes as the Loggers unleashed five total shots,
including three on goal.
The Loggers return to action on Saturday afternoon when they
play host to George Fox, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
