Ludwig Double-Double Not Enough As Loggers Fall, 49-42

TACOMA, Wash. - Junior forward Natasha Ludwig (Hilo, Hawaii/Waiakea) collected a double-double in her first collegiate start but it was the St. Thomas Tommies who collected the victory, defeating the Puget Sound Loggers, 49-42, in a non-conference women's basketball game on Sunday evening at Henry Foss High School in Tacoma, Wash.

The Loggers held a 26-25 halftime lead after starting out on fire, scoring the games' first 10 points. The Tommies eventually clawed their way back to get within one at half.

In the second half, St. Thomas continued their hot play from the end of the first half, using a strong defensive effort to hold the Loggers back and take the lead with 4:23 remaining in the game. UST held onto that lead to take the game by a final of 49-42.

The Loggers were led by 11 points from Claire Ely (Walnut Creek, Calif./Northgate). Ludwig finished with 10 points and 16 rebounds. The Loggers forced 26 turnovers on the game but were held without a steal.

St. Thomas was led by 13 points from Andi Olson and 12 from Jessica Katch. Sarah Smith collected the double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Tommies shot 31.3-percent on the game to collect the win.

The Loggers will be back in action on Friday night when they take on Chapman at University of Redlands in Redlands, Calif.
