TACOMA, Wash. - Junior forward Natasha Ludwig (Hilo,
Hawaii/Waiakea) collected a double-double in her first collegiate
start but it was the St. Thomas Tommies who collected the victory,
defeating the Puget Sound Loggers, 49-42, in a non-conference
women's basketball game on Sunday evening at Henry Foss High School
in Tacoma, Wash.
The Loggers held a 26-25 halftime lead after starting out on
fire, scoring the games' first 10 points. The Tommies eventually
clawed their way back to get within one at half.
In the second half, St. Thomas continued their hot play from the
end of the first half, using a strong defensive effort to hold the
Loggers back and take the lead with 4:23 remaining in the game. UST
held onto that lead to take the game by a final of 49-42.
The Loggers were led by 11 points from Claire Ely (Walnut Creek,
Calif./Northgate). Ludwig finished with 10 points and 16 rebounds.
The Loggers forced 26 turnovers on the game but were held without a
steal.
St. Thomas was led by 13 points from Andi Olson and 12 from
Jessica Katch. Sarah Smith collected the double-double with 10
points and 10 rebounds. The Tommies shot 31.3-percent on the game
to collect the win.
The Loggers will be back in action on Friday night when they
take on Chapman at University of Redlands in Redlands, Calif.
